Designed in India

There is sooo much to report under this head. Of late an increasing number of designers have been putting Indian Design on the international map. Here, on DESIGNED in INDIA page of the blog we will be seeing the works of many such studios from all over the country. The list is quite ready but we are waiting for pictures that will do justice to what we are saying.....

SARITA HANDA
Gorgeous Bed Linen

One of the many good things happening currently in the Indian retail scenario is that the many export oriented companies are now selling the same export quality in the local market. We always rued about not finding the desirable designs in matching quality and yet when one turned around a nice looking piece in an overseas store to look at the label, quite often it read 'Made in India'. Well, the good news is that if you've been drooling over pieces at stores such as the likes of Potterybarn and Anthropolgie, they are now available right here. When Manan Design opened at Khan Market in New Delhi, it was a huge relief to see the beginnings, then came others and a niche had been created.

Then there was the SHE Home which had lovely designs but we couldn't quite comprehend where these designs were coming from till it was re-branded under its designer's name: SARITA HANDA.

Sarita has undoubtedly swept us off our feet with her heart warming patterns and exquisite quality of embroideries and finishes. She has updated the traditional European embroideries by tweaking the colour palette and brought the old world charm closer home. Sarita's passion for what she does is perceptible in every which way and shows all along, be it the store, the office or the factory. The person, Sarita, is very much the way the brand is presented both being synonymous to each other. Its progression is in the truest old world style - with daughter Suparna and son-in-law Rahul actively involved in covering the final mile.

Sarita Handa label is at Bloomingdales, Potterybarn, Anthropolgie and the likes. So if you've been walking past embroidered garden cushions or needle work of French country designs chances are that it was a piece from the factory at Manesar.

The mood is upbeat as the collection for the September 2012 Maison d' Objet is ready to be shipped.
And what are we seeing for the coming Fall season....bold patterns, indigos and corals. See more at www.saritahanda.com. The store at Khan Market has more surprises!

We'll be seeing more of these as the network of stores expands. Next one coming up is at Defence Colony...we are waiting!
